God Will Provide Through Faith

Throughout the Word of God we see that the Lord makes provision for us even in our desert and wilderness times and seasons. God’s provision for His children runs through every aspect of Scripture. Elijah was fed by ravens, Daniel was protected from lions, Hebrew children were spared from the fire, and disciples were taught to pray for daily provision. Faith, however, is the key to seeing all of this provision of God in Scriptures.

Without faith in Him and His ability to provide for us makes the provision null and void. The Israelites failed to see the provision of God while wandering in the wilderness simply based upon their lack of faith.

Psalms 78:17-24 – “And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness. And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.”

The Israelites saw the mighty works of God but still questioned the ability of God to take care of them. They saw all the works used for their deliverance in Egypt. They had seen God cause water to come out of a rock. They were receiving manna from heaven for bread to eat. Yet they temped and taunted God questioning if He could provide them with actual meat in the wilderness for so many people. They lacked faith in the provision of God. For this they suffered greatly and the Lord was wroth with them.

Many times, due to a lack of faith on our part, we fail to see what God is providing for us already, and eliminate future blessings that God wants to give us. We must have faith in God that He will do what He has said He will do, and trust that He has our best interest in mind. If we do not, then the provision of God for our life will be missed and, at times, not given at all.

Hebrews 11:6 – “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
