Not a Spurs fan but....

First, let me just say that I am not a San Antonio Spurs fan.  Watching them beat my Suns year after year in the playoffs has left a sour taste in my mouth that will not soon go away.  But I have to grudgingly give them praise on how they play basketball.  They play as a team.  Where more and more professional franchises are trying to hoard as much individual talent as possible, the Spurs just keep playing team basketball and they just keep on winning.  Consider the fact that the Spurs have only one player (Tim Duncan) who was a lottery pick where most other teams in the playoffs have six (Miami has eight).  Yet, the Spurs have won twenty games in a row and look to be the favorites to win this year's championship.

It seems that Coach Popovich and the Spurs have found out what God has known for all eternity.  It is always more productive for people to work as a team than as a separate set of individuals, no matter how talented those individuals may be.  God instituted the local church to be His body.  He instituted it to be a group of members that worked in harmony together with Him as their Head.  He did this because He knew that they would accomplish much more working together than they ever could working apart.  But in order to do this, they would have to be people who would lay aside their pride, their desire for individual prestige, and be willing to do that which is best for the body and not just for themselves.  If a church is made up of this type of people, there is no battle that they cannot win.  If it is not, there is no battle that they cannot lose.
