Politics
Politics is
something I believe people love to hate. We love it due to the amount of news
devoted to it, eating up the latest buzz on each candidate and elected official
(good or bad).
We hate it based
upon the fact when something goes wrong the politicians are the first to be
blamed. Sometimes this blaming is warranted but other times it is not.
Often we get so fed
up with the process that we give up and quit letting our voice be heard and our
vote count. The fact of the matter is, however, as Christians we cannot in all
good conscience allow our voices to be silenced.
Isaiah 62:6b –
“ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,”
Isaiah 58:1 –
“Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people
their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.”
I know frustration sets
in when there is really no good candidate to vote for, and when our favorite
candidate did not make it through. Yet our voice should still be heard and our
vote should still be cast for the man or woman who lines up with biblical
principles the most.
There is no perfect
candidate and there never will be. I do not trust in the candidate, but in the
God who can turn the heart of the King any way He chooses. I am not voting for
a pastor but for a secular leader who can be used and molded by God.
To be honest with
you, it has been some time since I actually voted for somebody in office who I
truly believed in, or agreed with on a consistent basis. The fact of the matter
is, I have still voted in every election for the candidate who came the
closest, between the choices I had, that would match the principles laid down
in the Word of God.
Do not stay home but
let your voice be heard. Even if your candidate does not win you still want
your vote and voice to be heard. Even if you know beyond the shadow of a doubt
that your candidate was going to lose you still win if you vote. If you don’t
vote you are not only letting people silence you, but you are giving more
political “capital” to that candidate that you would have voted against.
Make your voice
heard. Believe it or not politicians do listen to those who are making their
voices heard. A candidate who wins by a landslide does what they want, but a
candidate who narrowly wins listens even to the other side they were against.
