Foxhole Prayers
We have all probably heard the term
“foxhole prayers.” These are the kind of prayers that are offered up like “hail
Mary” passes in football hoping for some glorious result. They are not founded
in a relationship or even a belief in God. They are just last minute efforts to
try to get what you want from some higher being.
We must see that
prayer is more of putting our attention and dependence on God than it is
getting God’s attention to focus on us.
Prayer should never
be looked upon as the Christian’s good luck charm. God wants His children to be
faithful in good times, as well as in the bad times. If we turn a deaf ear to
God in the good times do not be surprised if He turns a deaf ear to us in the
bad times.
Proverbs 1:28-29 –
“Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early,
but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose
the fear of the LORD:”
Power in prayer is
grounded in a 24/7 obedience to the Lord. Don’t only get serious with God and
pray when your life is hanging in the balance. Pray and follow the Lord even in
the good times and He will carry you through the bad times.
