Is Jesus God? – Part IV - The Attributes of Jesus

As we have been looking at different things to help us see the divinity of Jesus Christ I would like to share one last thing. I believe that when you look at the attributes (inherent characteristics) of Jesus you will find that He possessed attributes that no mere human could possess. These attributes of His were divine and show us that Jesus could be no one else but God Himself.

First, we see that Jesus was Omnipotent or All Powerful.

Matthew 28:18 – “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

Second, we are shown that Jesus possessed Omniscience or was All Knowing.

John 16:30 – “Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.”

Third, the Scriptures declare that Jesus is Omnipresent or present in all places at all times.

Matthew 28:20b – “and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Forth, we know that Jesus possesses Eternality or has no beginning and no end.

John 1:1-3, 14 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. … And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Fifth, Jesus is Immutable or is unable to be changed.

Hebrews 13:8 – “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

Lastly, Jesus is Holy and possesses no unrighteousness or sin at all.

Hebrews 7:26 – “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;”

By a very simple study of the Scriptures it is very clear that Jesus, the Bible, and God Himself all claim the divinity of Jesus Christ the Saviour. If you are going to believe the Bible and make the statement that Jesus was a good teacher; then you also cannot escape the fact that He was and is God. If you don’t believe that Jesus was and is God then He was either a liar (claiming to be what He was not) or a lunatic (confused about who He really was). Neither of these describes the Jesus of the Bible, however. Jesus was neither a liar nor a lunatic; He is the Saviour and Lord of this world.
