Why Plant Churches?
On June 6th
through the 7th we are having a church planting conference here at
our church. So the obvious question is, “Why do we want to plant more
churches?”
It is God’s plan
from the very beginning that we spread out and multiply as human beings.
Genesis 1:28a –
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and
replenish the earth, and subdue it:”
Genesis 9:1 –
“And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth.”
As individual human
beings it is God’s desire that we spread throughout the earth sharing the
gospel to all those we come in contact with.
God’s plan for the
church, which is made up of individual saved people, is the same. God’s Church
is supposed to spread throughout the earth multiplying and planting new
churches.
When the brand new
church in Jerusalem became so big and was not spreading beyond its borders; God
sent persecution to force it to plant and spread.
Acts 8:3-4 – “As
for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling
men and women committed them to prison. Therefore they that were scattered
abroad went every where preaching the word.”
It is only natural
for something that is alive and strong to multiply and disperse. Something
alive that stays put and continually grows usually becomes completely unhealthy
because it is unable to keep up with its body mass. It is no different with a
church. It is completely healthy and right, according to God’s divine plan,
that churches multiply themselves. This is better than become an overgrown
organization that is spiritually unable to maintain itself, let alone reach out
beyond its borders.
Mark 16:15 – “And
he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature.”
May every church
have a heart for other churches to be planted and grow to maturity in their own
community, as well as around the world. The heartbeat of every family is that
their name might continue to grow and multiply through the coming generations.
May the church have the same kind of heartbeat.
