Why Should I Go to Church?

This coming Sunday is our back to Church Sunday. This is a yearly event we have to encourage people to get back into a routine of coming to church. Through the summer months our schedule often gets thrown off with vacation and events. Once the school year rolls back around we find that more of a regimented schedule comes into play.
The same should be true of Church yet often we hear the question from Christians, “Why is church important and why should I even go?”
Well, first of all, God has commanded us to not forsake the gathering of Christians together.
Hebrews 10:25 – “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
If you as a Christian forsake coming to church you’re not in love with Jesus as much as you think for you are. You are actually ignoring one of the most basic commands of Scripture. Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” – John 14:15.
It also means that you are in deep danger of spiritual atrophy. I Corinthians 12 makes it very clear that we are a body together in Christ and cannot survive without each other or apart from the life giving source of the vine (John 15:5). My finger would shrivel up and die separated from my body, and a grape will not continue to ripen and grow apart from the vine. The same is true for any Christian who separates himself from the church which Christ died for, and has given His hand of blessing to (Ephesians 5:25).
Lastly, if you forsake the church and its gathering you are in danger of being completely devoured by the Devil himself.
I Peter 5:8 – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
Lions always go for the animals who are weak and separated from the herd first. If you are separated from the Church as a Christian then you are weak spiritually, and make no mistake you are first on the menu of being devoured by the Devil spiritually.
It is no trifle matter to be separated from the institution that Christ gave His life blood to found. It is your spiritual life blood and your encourager in the faith. Don’t forsake it as the manner of some is. Stay faithful to it and the blessing of God will be seen, also your spiritual growth will continue. There is no, “I can do it myself” in Christianity for that is simply impossible.
