Why Are My Prayers Not Answered? – Part VI
A great hindrance to
prayer, and often why our prayers go unanswered, is a lack of patience.
Impatience with God and His timing will cause us to sorrow and despair. Hebrews
says the following.
Hebrews 11:6b – “…and
that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
The reward and power
that you could have received in prayer may be lost due to a lack of patience
and diligence in your life.
Abraham prevailed
because he did not stagger at the promise of God. He willingly waited for God
to work things through in his life.
Elijah prevailed
because he continued to pray for rain even when there was no sign of rain. He
told his servant to go seven times to look for rain until there was finally
rain.
Jesus clearly was
teaching us to be patient in prayer and to have the attitude of perseverance in
one of the parables He gave. In Luke 18:1-8 a widow prevailed with an unjust
judge because she had patience and never stopped asking until she received her
request. Verse 7 and 8 says God will answer prayers more than an unjust judge
will. If an unjust judge gave a widow her request because she continually
requested, and had the patience to persevere, how much more of a result do you
think you will have before a holy and just God if you are just patient to
receive your request in His timing? I tell you that God will hear and will come
quickly.
Your prayer life, as
a Christian, should be important to you. We must avoid all hindrances that would
crack and split the foundations of a powerful prayer life.
If unconfessed sin, a
spirit of unforgiveness, disregard for God’s Word, selfishness, unbelief, and a
lack of patience rule your life you will not have a solid foundation laid for
your prayer life. Your prayers will be weak and to no avail.
If you, however, have
solid foundations laid for your prayers they will be to great avail.
James 5:16 – “Confess
your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
