Where is the Profit?
Have you ever felt
that no matter what you do or how hard you work you never seem to get ahead? It
becomes frustrating when our efforts are poured into something and we don’t
seem to see the profit in it. Often that frustration comes from expecting immediate
results and not waiting for the proper sowing and harvest time.
When a farmer sows
his seed it would be insane for him to think he can harvest the crop the next
day. If he tried to plant a crop in an area that is not suitable to the plant
he is trying to cultivate that would be foolhardy. If he did expect this he
would become very frustrated with being a farmer.
In all labor and
efforts the reward does not always come immediately or through our own strength.
Often it takes much time to finally see results happening. We also need to make
sure we are working in the proper way and in the area that God wants us. What
we need to realize is that God blesses effort and work, and views it as being
very profitable if we are under His will and in the place He has put us.
Proverbs 14:23 –
“In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to
penury.”
Just talking about
something will never get anything done and only lead to poverty. That is what
the word penury means. Getting busy and actually working for the Lord is where
the profit comes into play.
Nothing will ever
come easy in this life but we have a God who is willing to put His strength
into those who are willing to work for Him.
Ecclesiastes 9:1a –
“For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the
righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God:”
That is the key. We
can work ourselves into the ground and never accomplish a thing. Yet, if we are
following God’s will He supplies the strength and our labor produces much
profit. Don’t just work for your own sake, but work for the Lord and His will.
That is where the profit comes from and that is where your resource for
refreshment comes from. Where is the profit? The profit is found in working for
the Lord and not self.
