Forgiveness – A Powerful Tool

Genesis 45:4-5, 7-8a – “And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. … And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: …”
  If anybody had a human right to exact vengeance upon others you would think it would have been Joseph. Sold by his brothers as a slave, lied about by Potiphar’s wife, and forgotten by two prison inmates who he had helped. When he came to power under Pharaoh he could have had all these people pay for wronging him. Instead we never find any vengeance enacted at all upon any of these people.
  Sure he put his brothers through a little testing period to see if their heart had changed at all toward others, but in the end…

Being a Parent

Being a parent is one of the most difficult jobs I have ever been given. One day I was cruising along carefree in this world and then all of the sudden I had this alien being I was responsible for. No manual came with it, and it wanted to occupy all of my time night and day!!   When my daughter was born I remember suddenly taking things more seriously, and then when my son was born two years later there was no more fooling around. I realized that I was suddenly responsible for two human beings who would grow up and make decisions that would affect their lives, as well as the lives of all those around them. How in the world was I going to raise them?   Then I remembered I was given a manual on how to deal with this amazing responsibility. I was given a Bible, God’s Holy Word, from a Father who loved me so very much. In its pages as I was shown what my heavenly Father did for me I was able to be a better earthly Father to my own children. I had a great role model I could follow in th…
