The Protection of Rules

I once heard a statement that goes like this, “He who is enslaved to the compass has the freedom of the seas.” That is so true.
Many today look at freedom as being the absence of rules and regulations. They feel they are being oppressed if there is some standard they are to follow. The truth of the matter is that true freedom can only be found if you follow the rules and regulations of a given discipline.
When you know how to read a compass, and the rules and regulations on how to navigate the sea, then and only then do you have true freedom to roam the sea as you please.
If you want to fly a plane there are many rules and regulations that you must follow. Once these rules are learned the freedom of the skies belongs to you.
If you ignore these rules then you are sure to meet with certain disaster. It will not be the joys of freedom you experience.
The same is true of life. If you want to live this life in true abundance and freedom then there are some rules and regulations God has laid down for us to follow. These rules are found in the Word of God. Many look at these commandments of God’s Word and call them oppressive and overbearing saying that they would make life grievous. However, the truth is the opposite.
I John 5:3 – “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
The commandments of God are not grievous but are actually commands that keep us away from the grievous parts of life. These commands are given to us by God because of His love for us. He wishes to keep us from the grievous and disastrous parts of life. If we live by them and follow them true freedom in life can be obtained.
John 8:36 – “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
God can give you a life of more abundance, and He has shown us how to have that life and freedom by giving us the Bible. May you find true freedom within its pages.

John 10:10 – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
